GerambRose 2024
We are delighted to share the GerambRose 2024 award with our ARGE partner Caspar Wichert Architektur for the modernization and expansion of the Grottenhof School of Agriculture and Forestry in Graz.
Our sincere thanks go to the association BauKultur Steiermark, which presents this prestigious award every two years to exemplary projects in Styria, and to the jury – Sandra Gnigler, Thomas Hasler, Anna Popelka, Gernot Reisenhofer and Gustav Spener – for honoring our project.
Excerpt from the jury statement:
The holistic approach integrates an educational institution, an organic food store and a weekly organic farmers’ market into an architectural concept centered around maximum resource efficiency and conservation. The positioning of the buildings responds to the topography, the surrounding landscape, and the existing structures. Generous open spaces between the existing building, the sports hall and the classroom wing serve not only as access routes but also transform into multifunctional areas for gathering, events, and more. The learning clusters provide varied views in and out toward the surrounding agricultural landscape. This essential connection to the natural environment remains a constant presence within the building. The concept also reimagines the outdoor spaces: entrances and common areas are now car-free and clearly separated from traffic zones. What was once a parking area is now a multifunctional plaza that provides an appropriate setting for the organic market.
