Competition /// Our competition entry for the kindergarten in Föhrenhain envisions a place where architecture and landscape merge seamlessly. Nestled behind the existing play hill, it creates a protected environment within the heterogeneous context of Föhrenhain, offering a high-quality place with diverse visual connections – from the open play meadow in the west to the expansive fields in the east.

The compact building volume transforms naturally into a topography. Interior and exterior areas interlock, making the landscape an integral part of the educational concept. This results in diverse play and learning environments that support the children’s holistic development.

Sustainability informs the design on all levels: an energy-efficient structure, green roofs, resource-conscious materials and a forward-looking energy concept incorporating geothermal energy, photovoltaics and free cooling create a resilient and climate-responsive building.

Although the project will not be realized, it demonstrates how sensitively architecture can respond to place, use and environment.
