SECONDARY SPORTS SCHOOL GRAZ COMPETITION ENTRY

The building framework was tight. On a small plot of land with an existing building, a secondary sports school was to be designed that would be open to different learning and teaching scenarios. At the same time, a sports hall of a size that would cover almost the entire building plot was required.

This difficult requirement was the incentive for us to develop a special place for the secondary sports school in Graz. Sport is the dominant theme in the design. At the center of the school is a generous space for sports. There is no acoustic separation between the sports hall, the foyer and the lunch area. Only a net prevents balls from being kicked out of the sports hall. The entire sports hall can be seen from the foyer, as the fitness room above it. The auditorium extends along the sports hall together with the dining and leisure area. Here you can sit, chat, drink and watch a sporting event or sports lesson. This applies to pupils during breaks as well as to visitors at an event. The theory clusters of the school are housed in the existing building. Three equal learning environment are created, offering pupils the same high quality conditions.
