Competition /// The design follows the motto “Learning at the interface with the city” and understands the school as an active part of the urban fabric. The distinctive four-storey building forms a clear urban edge along the street while simultaneously interweaving the educational clusters with the green spaces of the site. Stepping down towards the southeast, the building creates a generous open space together with the adjacent Bafep21.
Differentiated outdoor spaces (from an urban forecourt as an interface to the city to park-like play and activity areas) extend the school’s program and enable a variety of uses beyond teaching hours. Interior and exterior spaces are seamlessly interconnected.
A clearly structured, robust façade made of recycled, perforated metal sheets combines constructive logic with architectural expression. The compact building form, climate-responsive open spaces and resource-efficient construction form the basis of the sustainable school design.
The project demonstrates how a school gains quality not only through its internal organization, but above all through its integration into the urban context.
